Public-targeted interventions addressing antimicrobial resistance and antibiotic use in Sub-Saharan Africa: a scoping review

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a global health threat, with sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) facing the highest mortality rates. Most interventions focus on hospital settings and provider behavior, but community-centered interventions often lack a theoretical framework. This scoping review investigates public-targeted interventions on AMR and antibiotic use within SSA, paying close attention to the theories underpinning these interventions. Results show that AMR interventions are tailored to various demographics, but there is a lack of inclusive interventions for vulnerable populations, such as persons living with disabilities.
